Travel | Gili Trawangan, Indonesia

by - Friday, May 18, 2018

As you all may know, I just came back from Lombok, Indonesia.

Here's a short travelogue on my experience at Gili Trawangan, one of the three (3) islands near to Lombok, Indonesia. It is the largest among three (3) of the islands. We chose this island because it is the most happening with happening street and more beautiful accommodations to choose from.

Shall we begin now?
#1 : How to travel from Lombok Airport to Gili islands?

  1. Take a BLUE taxi to Bangsal Harbour (approx.. 2 hours) at 250,000 – 300,000 Rupiah.
  2. Purchase ferry tickets at 15,000 Rupiah (Public) OR 80,000 Rupiah (Speed Boat) per pax. Take note that tourists might also be asked to pay a tourist and environmental fee on top of the ferry fare. These fees are about 20,000 Rupiah per person. (Public Ferry takes approx.. 40 minutes to arrive at Gili T)

#2 : Oceano Jambuluwuk Resort

Definitely highly recommending this resort.
Affordable, breakfast included, beautiful and quiet!

#3 : [FOOD] Gili Frame Restaurant

This is one of the highly-recommended eateries to visit in Gili Trawangan as it serves a wide variety of food and beverage at affordable prices.

(Top) Ayam Goreng Asam Manis 45K; Fresh Coconut
(Bottom) Tuna Steak 45K; Gado Gado 45K

I fell in love with Thai Som Tam. Here I am, falling in love with Gado Gado.
Steamed Veggies with special blend peanut sauce. Yummy!

#4 : Most happening street - Jalan Pantai

This is the most happening street of them all.
You may take a brisk walk along the street while checking out the beautiful scenery and people.

You will be able to find a lot of beach side spots for you to enjoy a bottle of beer or even fresh coconut.

#5 : Visit Night Market

This night market isn't the usual night market I imagined.
I actually imagined it as the Thailand kind of night market.
It is actually a space with all the food stalls where most of them are selling similar food - Grilled Seafood.

#6 : Yoga at Gili Yoga

I found this via internet and walked in to book a spot for myself! (Link: HERE)
Price per drop-in class is only 100K per pax.

They have schedule for the morning and evening sessions.
Morning is usually the morning flow and meditation whereas evening is the Vinyasa Flow.
I wanted to opt for Vinyasa but couldn't match my time.

#7 : [FOOD] Pituq Cafe

Pituq is another highly-rated eateries to visit in Gili T.
It serves only vegan and vegetarian food but hey, it is great for me as I do not have to worry about dairy problem!

Having this after my yoga session is pure blissful!
What's so special about this place?

Fusion of Western and Indonesian culture.
The food is cleverly presented and prepared.

Scrambled Tofu, Dragon Bowl, Star Dragon & Pumpchai Smoothie.

Verdict? I love them!
It gave me an idea on how to blend pumpkin and chai spices as well as the scrambled tofu!

#8 : Walk/ Cycle around the island

It is an island. Of course you can just stop by anywhere you want.
Basically we just cycled around in......yes, bikini and stopped by anywhere we want.

You want to stop by for some drinks and snacks?
Go ahead!
Parked our bike, ordered smoothies, turmeric shot and tuna burger.

#9 : Watch sunset while overseeing Bali

When it was almost 5pm, we cycled slightly further down to get to Sunset Paradise (a place's name) to get the best view of Sunset while overseeing Bali.

You will get to see the benches are fully occupied when it's almost 5pm.

Should I make it an aim to bridge everywhere?

#10 : [FOOD] Dinner by the beach at Scallywags

Last night at Gili T triggered a more romantic dinner.
We decided to have our dinner by the beach with more grilled seafood.

It comes with free flow of salad when we ordered these - Grilled Calamari, Grilled Squid and Grilled Tuna Steak.

#11 : Snorkel around the fishes and turtle (Private tour)

Best part of this trip is of course.....SNORKELING!
Snorkeling around the turtles, feeding the fishes, enjoying the clear view of the corals and more species in the sea while enjoying the feeling of floating on the sea surface.

We booked this private tour via online.
Definitely recommended for this tour guide named Eko (Link: HERE)
Good conduct of English and very good patience.
He guided us through every single must-visit spots for us to enjoy the beauty of Gili.

Another must-see phenomenon underwater will be this!
The famous Underwater Statues!
We wanted to remove our snorkeling gears to dive in but the current was too strong and it pushed me away from the statues.

Annual beach trip is ticked. =D

  1. Simcard isn't expensive in Lombok. You may get one to use for GPS or etc. We got ours for 60K with 15GB of 4G Data.
  2. We tried walking for 1st night and realised it isn't the best way to roam around the island. Hence, we rented a bike which costed us 50K for single OR 100K for double. Both are valid for 24 hours.
  3. If you have luggage to carry and bike is obviously not suitable, you may opt for their Cidomo Rides (a.k.a. Horse Cart) to travel to jetty or etc.
  4. It is an island. You won't lose your way on an island because it is just one big round. For the two (2) eateries recommended above, you just have to find it on google maps. Kindly refer to point #2.
  5. Things I found but never covered are Open Air Outdoor Cinema and Horseback ride along the beach. You all may include these in your schedule next time. Be reminded that the open air outdoor cinema is subject to availability and you have to take note of the schedule posted outside the venues.

Open Air Outdoor Cinema schedule
·         Vila Ombak (times: 19:00 and 21:00 | 100.000 IDR, free popcorn/fries included)
·         Le Pirate Beach Club (time: 20:30 | free )
·         Pink Coco ( after the sun sets | free)

  Horseback ride along the beach
Available at Stud Horse Riding Adventures or Sunset Stables.
